Our story

Stories have always been an integral part of our lives. Since we could communicate, humans have been using stories to entertain, educate, warn and to motivate fellow homosapiens. However, in the workplace we wonder if stories have any relevance? We do not get paid to sit around board room tables and tell stories. Or do we?

Little more than 3 years ago, two people with incredibly diverse backgrounds met at a community experiment. One had roots in meteorology and a solid career as a Big 5 consulting house consultant. The other had dabbled in psychology, human resources and theology. What could they possibly have in common? Well, it was at that fateful dinner that Sonja and Aiden began to explore the notions of complexity and narrative, and how combining the theory of complexity and the practice of narrative could lead to innovative ways to solve complex problems.

Our business does not fit within the usual business paradigms, and we exist in the space between hardcore consulting and softer approaches to humans and organisations. We harness story and narrative to create a compelling vision that people can aspire to, but also to provide the context required to enhance intervention processes to make sure that change actually happens, and that it can be sustained.  In short, we are where simple solutions and complex problems meet - we assist organisations to make sense of the complexity of their problem AND find contextually relevant ways to execute solutions.

It is the extreme of these two experiences that The Narrative Lab aims to bridge in finding:

The common ground between complex problems and simple solutions

Our approach is applied in the following domains:

narrative applications
